Guitar lessons - Must know basics

If you have already purchased your brand new guitar, here are a few quick pointers:

1. First, go through the basic structure of the guitar in this earlier post of mine about the guitar and its parts.

2. Once you have got the basics, learn the following:
a. How to hold a guitar - hold it in your lap, or hang it around your neck; hold the neck in your right hand; hold the pick in your left;
b. How to hold a guitar pick - many people hold it between their thumb and index (+/- middle) finger with the tip, obviously, towards the strings; some like to hold it in between their index and middle fingers - whatever you are comfortable with is just fine.
c. How to hold the the strings - the finger should be close to the fret but not on top of it; apply a gentle pressure enough to make the string sound properly without producing a rough metallic noise.
d. How to install the electronics - refer to the user manual as there are various kinds and one method definitely does not suite all.
