Augmented and Diminished Scales

qrcode for - Augmented and Diminished Scales
The Augmented Scales: It is produced by coupling up a pair of augmented triads that are a minor 2nd or minor 3rd apart (last note of the first triad is one or three half-steps below the 1st note of the second triad). Again, the scale may also be reversed. Thus,

Augmented scale – Structure: (3-1-3)-(1-3-1)

Inverse augmented scale – Structure: (1-3-1)-(3-1-3)

Thus this scale is a pattern of half and one-and-a-half steps

The Diminished Scale: The diminished scales are based on a series of alternating half steps and whole steps, so that any note can act as the root (when playing chords) / tonic note. Structure / Pattern of intervals between notes is 2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1. The scale may be reversed as 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2, to give another Octatonic scale (second grade of diminished scale).
